As you all know GoJaxState.com has exceeded its bandwidth. I would like to think that was caused by the excitement generated by the hiring of Coach Clark. The site has been administrated by SUFantatic since about 2008 when we lost Micheal Bell. SUFanatic has a very busy job out of state, and doesn't always have the ability to quickly respond to major board issues. We don't know when we will hear back from SUFanatic. Although I currently "own" the GoJaxState domain, I am unsure how to move it to another site without hearing from SUFanatic. Options would include: 1)patiently waiting for the situation to resolve itself. Unsure how long it will take 2) continuing with this as the primary board, perhaps in the future we could move the GoJaxstate domain to here. 3)Using the CSNbbs.com Board at csnbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=670The advantage of that board would be stability and bandwidth. It is a very popular board with forums for many schools. If you go to this thread and sign up, they will customize the board in JSU colors. csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=608685 We could eventually move the domain there. 4)Developing an entirely new website. Thoughts?

JSU02 and I have been discussing options since the main site went down. Just to get my 2 cents out there...
Keeping the original site would be my first choice, for obvious reasons: it would preserve all of our discussion threads. Pretty much any other option would result in losing everything and starting from scratch. (Of course, you old timers know we've been there a couple times before...)
But if we're unable to get the old site back up (at least in a reasonable time frame) my preference would be to move to the CSN board, for precisely the reasons JSU02 mentioned: stability and bandwidth.
Getting the site personalized with a JSU logo and JSU colors will happen pretty quickly once activity picks up. The guys who run that board aren't going to take the time to do it without knowing there's an audience first, though.
Freeforums is nice for what it is, and I'm thankful to Nathan for starting it up to bridge the gap, but it's not going to be the most reliable platform long term.
And while we could get our own webhost, set up a new forum, and point the domain there, that's a lot of cost and setup for something that is basically already out there waiting for us on CSN.

I have operated a phpbbs for years that is almost identical to this one, and never had a day's trouble. We are fans and not a team of scout network providers, but it would be nice to have a front-end to a JSU sports forum site, especially given the increase in traffic from the excitement of Clark's return. Even if all it had was a bit of history and some photos / media, it would beat what we have now. I don't know what budget exists, if any... but if there existed a web host with the ability to run wordpress, I would be glad to build a wordpress site for gojaxstate, and we could integrate a phpbbs into it. It really isn't that difficult, but I would volunteer the hours for photoshop work and page layout using a free template. As you may or may not know, I used to write for a University of A****** site. If we had a blog format, I could toss up the occasional article to try and help offset the loss of the gamecocks blog. In terms of articles, I would need help and contributions, as I am 9000 miles from Jacksonville. Here is a wordpress site for my school. I built it around a template and did all of the photoshop and layout work. www.gcataipei.comIt is hosted on yahoo. You can get it going for about $6/mo. Surely we have enough people on the board to donate to the cause. If it grew, down the road I could even create a premium content section for subscribers. All that said, for just a message forum, this would be fine...but the red background needs to go away. I like my school colors, but they are not pleasant to look at behind a message board with black text.

I'm one of those old-timers Whup Em All mentioned. While I post a lot less frequently than I used to, I read religiously. Yes, this does all feel very familiar. So, with those earlier experiences in mind, I offer the following comment:
I am fine with whatever option the people who will wind up doing all the work to make it happen are comfortable with. It will be a lot of work, and they will do it all, for free, simply because they can't imagine there not being a place online for us all to fuss and argue and fight - and occasionally celebrate - over Jax State. And because they volunteer to do this and charge us all nothing, I will not complain about the choices they make.
Good luck, guys. And thanks in advance. Let me know if I can help in some small way. (Please, let it be small.)

I really like GoJaxState and hope we can get it running again. This site, I hope, is just temporary. This was a horrible time for the site to go down and I thought we needed something in the meantime. I am still new to the forum world so I'll fix the colors. Any other suggestions are welcomed. Hope we can get a more permanent home soon. Please invite all from the old board if they're not here yet to get their opinion on what is next for JSU forums

Please change the color scheme to white/grey asap. This red is unpleasant.

When I'm signed in it doesn't let me see what you see. So every time I make changes I have to log out to see how it looks. Is the new color scheme any better? If not, i'll try to find a color close to grey. The color choice is limited.

White text boxes with red background/frame looks much better, thanks. Readability is much improved, and JSU red's gotta be there somewhere.

Yes, much better. No problem with red page, but red background was too hard to read.
I hope you consider what I suggested. If you want to enlarge gojaxstate into a site with a news / history / schedules /etc section, I will help. I can't devote a lot of time, but a couple hours per week after the initial setup is done could be arranged.

...and if I am being honest, I actually prefer the phpbbs software to what gojaxstate uses.

This color scheme is much easier on the eyes.
I see that proboards has a mobile app for Android and FruitOS. Any idea what it would cost to set it up there?

...and if I am being honest, I actually prefer the phpbbs software to what gojaxstate uses. Make no mistake, I'm not a fan of the GoJaxState software. The only real advantage to staying there is that we'd keep our old discussions. But we're also subject to outages like the one we're currently experiencing. I'm just glad I'm not the only going stir crazy. JSU02, I noticed the apps as well. That would be pretty sweet, though my wife would probably kill me if she caught me downloading a GoJaxState app. She already rolls her eyes because of the time I spend visiting here. (Even when I'm just reading, not posting.) Admitting I have a problem is the first step...

Everyone go ahead and go here and register for the CSN JSU Boardjsu.csnbbs.comThey said something about opening up rapid registration for JSU fans for the next 24hours. Even if we do not end up using that forum at all, it would allow them to go ahead and customize it for us. Just post in the JSU checkin thread. Post it on your twitter, facebook, or whatever else you use to spread the word so as many JSU fans as possible can get registered as quickly as possible.

Howdy folks. I run CSNbbs. I have lifted our normal freebie email ban and will be rapidly approving new registrations the next 24 hours... longer if they keep coming in in bunches.
At CSNbbs we're an independent fan owned fan operated board that was created after Scout purchased and then promptly dismantled and eliminated ACC Boards. We're the #1 board for the ASun, Big East, CUSA, MAC, and Sun Belt. We're the #1 board for Conference Realignment, ETSU, Cincinnati, Memphis, Campbell, UAB, Rice, Kent State, NIU, EMU, WMU, CMU, Toledo, and UALR. We've got lots of other active areas as well including ACC, B1G, and probably another 15 or so team boards.
I own all our server equipment and if I'm not happy with our hosting provider I can be on a plane and have it relocated in 24 hours. Our bandwidth isn't even billed for how much we use, but how fast we use it. So it is literally limitless.
If I can be of any help ... post a reply or shoot an email to gts -at- ncaabbs -dot- com
